First Sprints Added!
The first sprints of the year have been added to the calendar, so check them out! Also, until we can fix the old category designations, assume all sprints will give the last finisher 10 points, unless otherwise noted as a 20-point sprint.

Rules for 2009
The rules for the 2009 Sprint Series have been finalized and are posted under the "Rules" section...of course. Not too many changes except for, once again, in the scoring methodology.

2009 Sprint Series

The 2008 Sprint Series is over and the the 2009 Sprint Series will begin on January 1. We’re expecting a busier than ever season of sprints both in the USA and Canada. So make it your New Year's resolution to run in at least 3 Sprints this year.

You can start sending your scheduled Sprints to Kris Beecroft ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) for posting to the Sprint schedule. Don't wait until the last minute, as she will hold fast to the newly shortened 14-day requirement.

We are still working on plans for the 2009 Sprint Finals.

If there are any questions, please contact The Deciders, and we will decide anything you need.

And remember the most important thing -- sprint fast, sprint smart, sprint often!

2008 Sprint Series Winners!
he 2008 Sprint Series Finals took place in conjunction with the North American Championships, hosted by Central New York Orienteering. The short preliminary race was worth a massive 100 points (normal scoring), and the longer final was good for a winner-take-all 50-pt bonus. See the sprint final results.

In the end Samantha Saeger pulled ahead of Emily Kemp (still a junior!) to take the women's title by only 2 points. For the men, Mike Smith topped the field and was the only dude to break 18 minutes on the 3.5km final course.

The top five male and female sprinters of 2008:

Women:
1. Samantha Saeger
2. Emily Kemp
3. Katarina Smith
4. Hillary Saeger
5. Cristina Luis

Men:
1. Mike Smith
2. Patrick Goeres
3. Jon Torrance
4. Ross Smith
5. Eric Bone

Congratulations to the top runners!
