Solid technical performance. Still need a bit more energy. Happy to know that my body has enough fitness to survive this, but I'm not satisfied. WOC is coming.

Great race up to 17. Then my energy levels dropped on the way to 18. Too much climb. Right would have been faster. Lyme has definitely taken a lot of energy from me. Pisses me off a lot, but there's not much I can do right now other than keep treating myself properly. Good to see there technical ability is there. Now the energy has to catch up, because the fitness is definitely there.

Really interesting course set by Sam. It's a shame the Game Commission still won't let us run on the whole map, which is about twice as large as the area we ran on. 8-9 was the toughest leg for me, terrain was very rocky and the initial green slowed me down and kept me from reading my map. I let myself get pushed off course by the rocks. Compass is key on these hillsides with few features.

A bit more difficult and interesting than yesterday, but still too easy. Lost some time on 10 trying to go straight initially. After getting stuck twice, I decided to go around. Really fun to race Will and Eric.

A little disappointed with this course. I was hoping they would use the southern hillside more. I wasn't expecting a 10k simple sprint. Slowed down to a tempo because I didn't plan to race a 10k all out this weekend. A small mistake on 15 when I didn't enter in the correct place.

Pretty typical Southeast PA map: the places with good visibility have few visible features. Blank hillsides. I focused more than normal on my compass for 12 and got off bearing. It may not be properly balanced for this area. Going to 20, I was distracted from reading my map by the green and rocky ground, need more focus in sections like this. Interesting microsprint section made by Sam to get through the super green and rocky section.

Really great course setting for this middle in terrain that was very similar to Alentejo. I had a blast. Times were really fast and super close because of the high visibility and running speeds. Biggest mistake was definitely going to 22 when I crossed the stream when I didn't have to. Not terribly technically challenging, but every terrain has its challenges and here it was definitely sticking to your compass while running all out.

There had been quite a bit of rain over the past few days. So the water features had a lot of water in them. The ground was a lot softer also.

First time at Hibernia in a long time. Very thorny woods, but a few interesting bits. Visibility is still pretty good for Pennsylvania as the leaves have still not come out. Some sections are really good practice for Latvia.

A very fast course that still had some good route choices to it. The ground in the white woods at the start was actually very, very soft. Following the trails for a bit helped. I was leading a train up until the butterfly loop and the pace didn't feel too fast, but I stopped thinking clearly on the butterfly loop and had to lower the pace to get back into a zone where I could think. When I was going to 17 I based my entry into the woods from the trail on the location of the water stop, but they were in the wrong spot, actually being northeast of the position on the map. After that I stayed in a pack of 4 other guys. Pack running: very fast but you've got to maintain map contact. These guys were going pretty fast, faster than my tired body could manage at that point, but I stuck with them as best I could and got precious seconds when they screwed up the entry into the controls.

A mistake on #1 when I couldn't figure if the spur was a spur or a deep reentrant. Lost about 35 seconds there, Seems dumb now, Not sure why it was difficult to figure out. A pretty clean race after that. The scanner didn't pick up one the light green, but many of the controls were hidden in clearings in the middle of the green (7, 9, 15, 16) The compass was important.

Mass start night-o. Really good to practice having 100+ people around. I should have run faster to the first control because you had to fight your way in to punch. Who puts on SI unit at the first control? After that pretty good. Really enjoyed the southern section along the beach. Lots of people making mistakes down there.

My Achille's kept me from running aggressively. I've got to heal this as it keeps holding me back. Lost control and 17 and struggled to regain focus after that.

Final day on super fast terrain. Achilles kept me from pushing as fast as I wanted to. So I placed my focus on navigating well. Lost some time by not exiting the controls in the right direction and struggling to find the control once in the circle whenever there were large number of boulders in the circle)

Pretty good middle on extremely fast terrain. 39th place and 4:30 behind Mathias Kyburz. Started to have problems with thinking clearly towards the end on 18-19 (I started running to 12) and going to the wrong rock cluster at 21. Tomorrow will be an interesting chase start.

A realllllly fast long on Day 2. I didn't get tired because of the distance, but rather pushing that hard for 90 minutes. A few stupid mistakes when I started to lose focus and didn't check the exists from the controls

A pretty fast long. I realized early on that jumping the walls was going to tire me out fast for a course like this. I aimed to select routes that crossed as few walls/fences as possible. Even so I was pretty toast by the end. Brain stopped working on the final loop. I stopped looking at my compass and just started running. Lost a minute or so because of that. The long distance requires focus all the way up to the end. Took 5-10 seconds before the long legs to select the best route. I think that worked out well.

Fast woods. Once again focused on pushing all unnecessary thoughts out of my head prior to the race, and during the race when they came up. This worked well. Lost the most amount of time on 4 when I found the ditch but didn't see the control. I bailed to relocate, but was disappointed to realize I was on it.

Better day than yesterday. Meditated prior to the race to push the unnecessary thoughts out of my head. Only me and the map. Still a few bobbles. Passed by 2 and didn't see it at the bottom of the ditch. Couldn't decide on a route to 13. Still not sure if I executed it right.

Red at the HVO Winter Series. Really great course in excellent terrain. The visibility was too good, but I can have fun for once, right? Not satisfied with the route to six, it was ultimately too slow getting through the marshes and not worth the climb I saved. Confusion at 11 as I reverted back to Spanish knolls, i.e. piles of rocks. Different mapping styles. Gotta remember that.
