BAYOU BOOGIE CLASS B ORIENTEERING COMPETITION (Chicot State Park, Ville Platte, Louisiana) March 20-21, 2010 Open to the Public – All Ages – Beginners Welcome
MEET: Three meets will be part of the Bayou Boogie: 1) The Prologue (Start at 10AM on Saturday) and Chase (Start at Noon on Saturday); 2) The Motala (Start at 3PM on Saturday); and 3) Boogie Bayou Classic (Start at 9AM on Sunday). Awards Ceremony will take place Sunday at 3PM.
PROLOGUE and CHASE: The Prologue and Chase will be a series of two sprints; each of which will be part of the USOF Sprint Series and will be standard Sprint distances. The Prologue will have a staggered start. The Chase’s starts will be in accordance with Prologue Finish times, hence, all runners are “chasing” the top Prologue finishers. White and Yellow course registrants will be placed in the Beginner category; Orange and Brown registrants will be placed in the Intermediate category; and Green, Red, and Blue registrants will be placed in the Advanced category
MOTALA: The Motala is a tournament-style orienteering competition where top finishers move on to succeeding rounds. Course distances will not reach 1000 meters. This is an open competition with medals being awarded to the top eight male and female finishers.
BAYOU BOOGIE CLASSIC: This is a classic distance competition. In addition to standard USOF categories, Team Trophies will be awarded to the top three junior male and top three junior female teams.
WHERE: The entrance to Chicot State Park is located on FM 3042 approximately eight miles north of the town of Ville Platte, Louisiana. Bunkie is a small town just north of Chicot. Larger cities in the area are Alexandria (45 miles to the north) and Lafayette (30 miles to the south).
WHEN: Saturday, March 20th and 21st, 2010. Early registration will be on line at Bayou.Boogie.net and ends Thursday, March 11. Late registration will be available on line until Wednesday, March 17th. Late registration and packet pick up will be available at the Ville Platte Armory from 5 – 9PM on March 19th and from 7 - 9AM on March 20th at Chicot State Park. A free “How To” Beginner Instruction Class will take place at 9:15AM on the 20th.
SUPPORT FACILITIES: There are portalets at all sites along with showers and restrooms at the head of the improved camping area. There will be restroom also at the finish of the Prologue, Chase, and Classic competitions. Nearly free lodging and meals will be provided at the Ville Platte Armory. Bring your own sleeping bags, cots or mats, and hygiene items. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided on Saturday; and breakfast on Sunday.
SPONSORS: The Channelview HS JROTC and HOC will be responsible for registration and scoring. The course designers and course setters are (SFC) Duane Adams & his Varsity Orienteering team, as well as Carl Bridges (NTOA). Members from the HOC will set and verify the courses. AWARDS: Die cast Boogie Bayou medals will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place competitors in each class of the Prologue AND Chase; and the Boogie Bayou Classic. Trophies will be awarded to the top three junior boys and girls teams (school, JROTC, or Club). Scoring for the trophies will be based on the top five boy and girl scores using the rubric below. Medals will be awarded to the top eight male and female finishers in the Motala.
